Record Grape Crush for The New Zealand Wine Company

The New Zealand Wine Company has completed its 2007 grape crush of 3647 tonnes being 2251 tonnes of NZWC’s own grapes representing a 51% increase over last vintage with the balance from contract processing. This exceeds the previous record crush from last year by over 640 tonnes.

“Despite the generally lower yields in Marlborough the Company was able to secure sufficient grapes to take advantage of the growing demand arising out of the winery’s CarboNZero status particularly in our export markets” said New Zealand Wine Company CEO Rob White.

The 2007 vintage was again compact in nature but due to the efforts of all staff the record tonnage was managed relatively smoothly.

“Quality has been generally good, particularly with the Sauvignon Blanc” said Chief Winemaker Dave Pearce, “all in all it’s been a great success”.
