Grove Mill Riesling 2004 wins Trophy in London

Following on from the success of a gold medal win at the 2005 Air New Zealand Wine awards, the Grove Mill Riesling has won another prestigious award. The 2004 vintage of the Grove Mill Riesling has won the Regional Riesling trophy for under £10 wines at the London based Decanter World Wine Awards.

Riesling was the first variety made by Grove Mill in 1988 and has been made in a consistent style since. The Riesling varietal has been a favourite of Dave Pearce, Grove Mill’s winemaker of 18 years, and has developed a very loyal following with NZ and international wine drinkers.

“It’s great that New Zealand Riesling is being ranked with the best in the world. I’ve always regarded Marlborough as a great region to grow the variety and this endorsement bodes well for its future here.” said Dave Pearce, Grove Mill’s winemaker.

The Decanter World Wine Awards is a global competition whose aim is to provide credible recommendations for today's wine consumer. The Awards reflect regional styles, celebrate diversity, promote value for money, and highlight quality.

All the wines are tasted by region and once the wines are graded according to gold, silver, bronze, the gold wines then get tasted off to find a regional trophy winner.

The awards aim to focus on regional styles and the influence of terroir. Wines are judged on a regional level to promote a sense of origin over international homogenised styles.
